Project Overview
Psalm 127:1
Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.
Rocks Cry Out is a collection of Christian worship songs and hymns set in new arrangements. Some of the songs may be familiar, but the arrangements are more "band" oriented than "orchestra" and "production" oriented. They are "performable" by most worship teams.
Musical style
The musical styles range from rock and jazz-rock fusion to acoustic pop and folk. Influences include early to mid-1970's Rock, R & B, and Soul; including early Stevie Wonder, Larry Carlton and the Crusaders, Koinonia, Three Dog Night, Jeff Beck, Yes, and other similar Motown and rock-radio sounds. Modern musical influences include Blues Traveler, the Dave Matthews Band, and Tom Petty.Instrumentation
Electric bass, electric guitar, drums, piano, electric piano, organ, and clavinet. A few of the songs lean toward a folk-pop sound with acoustic guitar, congas, tambourine, djembe, etc. The songs have a "live" feel because the tracks were recorded as they were performed. Overdubbing was used to build the final version of each track, and sequencers, click tracks, and pitch correction weren't used.Project Goals
- Worship: To praise and honor our Lord and Savior!
- Evangelism: to introduce new listeners to a message or significance they may not have heard.
- Edification: to introduce worship leaders and believers to new arrangements of existing worship songs.
- Exposition: to highlight the meaning and significance of each song using scripture quotations and commentary.
The Liner Notes
The CD comes with printed liner notes in a booklet with one page for each song. Those notes are available here, as well as the actual song lyrics.Rocks Cry Out
